Red Eye and Allergy
- Conjunctivitis:
- Can be infectious (virus or bacteria) or allergic. Causes red, itchy and watery eyes.
- Dry eyes:
- Insufficient tear production, or abnormal composition of tears, can cause redness, irritation and a burning feeling.
- Corneal ulcerations:
- Wounds to the cornea cause pain, discomfort and redness of the eye. The cause can be injury or infection.
- Uveitis (inflammation of the uvea):
- An inflammation in the vascular structure of the eye, causing redness, light sensitivity and pain. Can be connected to several illnesses.
- Subconjunctival hemorrhage:
- When a blood vessel under the conjunctiva bursts, a red spot appears. It’s usually painless and heals in 2-3 weeks.
- Allergies:
- Pollen, dust or fur can cause red, itchy and watery eyes.
- Contact lenses:
- Dirty or worn-out lenses can irritate the eye and cause redness.
- Foreign objects:
- Dirt or debris in the eye can cause redness and irritation.
